September 11 Tribute

This song, “Give Me Your Eyes” by Brandon Heath, has truly touched my heart since I first heard it on the radio on K-LOVE.  The words are tremendous!  Can you even begin to imagine how you would be changed if you could truly see people as God sees them?  Not what we see on the outside, but be able to see at a much deeper level.

I believe there’s a reason why people act the way they do, and I try to be sensitive to that. I don’t know everything about everybody. I don’t know what’s going on in their personal lives, or whether they’re having a difficult day, or even what has happened in their past that may be affecting them in some way. It doesn’t matter whether I know or not, but what does matter is that I love them the way God wants me to love them. We all need and desire to be loved. What happens if we don’t feel as if anyone loves us or as if anyone cares? Maybe a terroristic attitude like what happened on 9/11 or worse? Why is there so much hatred in the world? Love is not what brought about 9/11, it had to do with hate deep in the heart  . How can you deliberately hurt someone you sincerely love with evil intentions in your heart and mind toward them? I met a young lady several years ago who did not know how to love because she had never known love throughout her lifetime  ; she was probably in her early twenties or a little younger. I came to know her while she was incarcerated; this was at a time when another lady and I went to the county jail to have weekly Bible studies with the women. This young lady really wanted to know how to love others. My heart was touched, and we did what we could to help her.

This song is my prayer. I want to see beyond the facade. I’m not talking about wanting to be God, but to get a glimpse beyond what I see as irritating and annoying on the outside; to truly love others the way God desires me to love them. Only God knows what we are going through and what we need.
